About NHS
The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes outstanding high school students who demonstrate excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Membership is one of the highest honors a student can achieve during their high school career.
Founded in 1921, NHS promotes academic achievement, community involvement, and ethical behavior. Members uphold these values both in and out of school.
Membership Requirements
- Scholarship: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership in school and community activities.
- Service: Participate in volunteer work and service projects.
- Character: Uphold high standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility.
Each candidate’s application is reviewed by the school’s Faculty Council, which evaluates qualifications in all four areas.
Activities and Service
- Organizing school-wide service projects
- Volunteering with local charities and organizations
- Tutoring or mentoring other students
- Supporting community events and fundraisers
NHS encourages leadership and a lifelong commitment to helping others through these activities.
